Alberta held an Express Entry draw to invite the candidates to apply for the provincial nomination for permanent residence on April 20 the details for which were released later. It is another Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) draw.

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) issued 200 invitations to candidates who are eligible through the Alberta Express Entry Stream. The candidates were invited on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score; the minimum score for the draw dropped to 301 points.

In order to be invited in Alberta’s new Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw, candidates needed to have a profile in the Express Entry system.

Express Entry system is used by federal government to manage the PR applications for the following three federal immigration streams:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Candidates are required to qualify in one of these immigration streams to be in Express Entry pool and they are assessed based on the multiple factors like age, education, work experience and language ability and are ranked according to the CRS score.

The candidates who have highest ranking are invited to apply for PR through the regular Express Entry draws. Candidates who receive a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 CRS points. Considering the score in recent months, the additional score ensures the receipt of invitation to apply in subsequent Express Entry draw.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

Express Entry candidates have the opportunity to receive an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination from Alberta, as well as other provinces with Express Entry-aligned PNPs. They need to have work experience in an eligible occupation. AINP provides a list of excluded occupations from the demand on the official website.

Alberta was allowed to issue 6250 nomination certificates in 2020 while the province planned to issue just 4000 nomination certificates due to pandemic which were issues by June 2020. For this year, the number of nominations AINP can issue is not disclosed yet.
