Benefits of the new UK Skilled Worker Visa

UK has launched the new Skilled Worker visa and that has certain rules changed along with the new pathway introduced. There are new benefits of the visa for those who are aspiring to go to UK to work and settle down.

Benefits to the skilled workers under Skilled Worker visa:

• The Skilled Worker visa will apply to both EEA (European Economic Area) citizen and non-EEA citizens.
• The skill threshold of the visa is lower than Tier 2 Skilled Worker route. Hence, new visa route will be open for sponsorship of RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework) Level 3 job occupation which will increase job opportunities as the more jobs will be able to qualify for the sponsorships.
• The minimum salary requirement is lower. The baseline minimum salary is £25,600 or the going rate for the specific job, whichever is the higher.
• Individuals younger than age of 26 years with jobs on Shortage occupation List and phD degrees in STEM subjects that is relevant to job will be eligible at lower minimum salary.
• Annual cap of current Tier 2 Skilled Worker visa is going to be abolished and visa will not be turned down because the annual or monthly cap has been reached.
• The Resident Labour Market Test will not be required for jobs on Shortage Occupation List anymore, although as per the Home Office it might still include some advertising requirements. Final rule on this in not out yet.
• New visa offers more flexibility to applicants as certain characteristics are tradeable. If you do not meet one requirement fully, you can make up the requisite number of points from another requirement.
• The new visa also has the advantages of the old Tier 2 route where partner and dependent can apply to accompany the main visa holder. At the end of the successful completion of five years on this route, the applicant can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.
