IRCC holds first draw for Express Entry candidates with Provincial Nomination

Canada Express Entry PNP Draw - CEC Visitor Work Permit
  • January 7, 2021

Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) holds the first draw of the year on January 6 to issue invitations to the Express Entry candidates who have received the provincial nomination. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for the invitation was 813 points.

The candidates who have received the provincial nominations from the Express Entry aligned Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) receive additional 600 points to their overall score and therefore the score requirement for this round are very high compared to the other rounds of draw.

This draw invited 250 candidates and they can now officially apply to become the Canadian permanent resident.

Express Entry is Canada’s application management system for three federal immigration programs Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Candidates in these programs, as well as some PNPs, are given a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). These points are awarded based on the principal applicant’s human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, and language ability in English or French.

The points in this system may be awarded to the applicant(s) who is individual or couple. Express Entry candidates do not need to have any experience or job offer in Canada, but having one or both of them may give the applicants extra points.

The highest-scoring candidates receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence through regular Express Entry rounds of invitation. After making an application, IRCC will make a final decision on their immigration application and send them a Confirmation of Permanent Residence if their application is successful. The last step for approved permanent residents is to make their landing in Canada, and apply for their PR card. At this point, they have officially immigrated to Canada, and can eventually apply for citizenship.
