Canada invited 589 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence in a new round of invitations on May 25.

In this draw, a minimum score of 741 was required. IRCC only invited candidates who had previously received a provincial nomination, which is why the cutoff score was so high. Those candidates who hold a nomination from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) automatically receive 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.

For this draw, the tie-breaking rule was set for February 02, 2022 at 12:29:53 UTC. Candidates who had the lowest-eligible score were only invited if they had submitted their profiles to the Express Entry pool before this date.

In the previous invitation round, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 545 PNP candidates with scores of at least 753.

This was the 11th round of invitations under Express Entry in 2022 and the 223rd overall.

In July, the Express Entry draws for FSWP and CEC candidates will resume

According to Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, Express Entry invitations for Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates will resume by early July. Additionally, the minister announced that the majority of new Express Entry applications will be processed within the six-month service standard.

Since December 2020, Express Entry draws for FSWP candidates have been paused, and draws for CEC candidates have been halted since September 2021. The processing times for these programs are currently well above IRCC’s six-month target. In order to reduce the Express Entry backlog, which was exacerbated by the pandemic, IRCC temporarily paused draws for these candidates.

As reported in the IRCC’s April 22 media briefing, the IRCC made 156,000 permanent residence decisions between January 1 and March 31, 2022, which is double the number for the same period in 2021.

Although the number of newcomers expected to immigrate through the Express Entry system has declined in 2022 and 2023, IRCC plans to welcome more than 110,000 immigrants through Express Entry by 2024.
