Know what’s in post coronavirus pandemic

Canada Post Corona

On Friday, July 24, 2020, Canadian federal and provincial immigration ministers decided to invite as much as possible immigrants in support of the economic recovery plan after the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the ministers, immigration of Canada has been proved as a crucial step to take ahead so that the country’s economic condition can resume to normal.

All the important decision-makers for immigration programs got in touch online to discuss the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the Canadian immigration system.

In total Canada have three territories & ten provinces. Each of them except Nunavut has a two-way agreement with the federal government. The agreement allows the territories & provinces to intervene in individual immigration programs to invite economic class applicants.

Apart from the agreements, these two levels of government personals meet online regularly for discussions like current issues of immigration programs and to plan the future accordingly. In the last meeting, ministers admitted to taking a step ahead with a “strong immigration system” plan.

Topics discussed by Ministers:

Apart from the discussion of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the immigration system, the ministers had a debate on the immigration levels of planning and regional economic immigration. The entire team took the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Strategic Plan into consideration for Immigration 2020-2023 and that will help in deciding the priorities for immigration over this period.

As per the statistics, foreign students have been proved as an asset to the Canadian economy as it showed a good amount of recovery as well as long-term success.

Due to current restrictions, Canada’s ability of short-term new immigrants’ acceptance has been affected but the long-term plans drive the programs at the same pace. Canada is still in a phase where requirements of labour are increasing in more than one industry and suffering from lower population growth with the low birth rate. In this situation, Immigration is the only way to increase or maintain a healthy population growth and to fulfil the requirements of the labour market.

To overcome the situation, ministers continued the collaboration to develop a new Municipal Nominee Program, as immigrants still hesitate in settling to Canada’s smaller cities.

PNP draws are the best examples of immigration programs and the needs of immigrants in Canada. They also have federal immigration pilots in the plan to target regional and local labour market gaps, such as the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program, and the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.

The next meeting date was not revealed; however, it is predicted that the next meeting can take place nearly in the fall. It must take place before the new immigration levels are announced for 2021-2023.
