Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held another Express Entry draw issuing the highest number of invitations for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. Total 27,332 invitations were issued in the Express Entry draw on February 13.

This draw of IRCC was one of the largest draw inviting large number of candidates after four consecutive draws of 5000 invitations in end of 2020. Required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the draw was just 75 points which is the lowest CRS Score ever. Previously, the lowest CRS score was 199 points in the draw held on May 16, 2017 that invited Federal Skilled Trades Program candidates.

The tie breaking rule was applied for this draw where the applications submitted before September 12, 2020 at 15:31 UTC with CRS score of 75 points and above received the invitation.

On last Wednesday, Canada held Express Entry draw for PNP candidates where 654 invitations were issued which makes total 27,986 Invitation to Apply issued in one week.

Express Entry is Canada’s application management system for three federal immigration programs Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Candidates in these programs, as well as some PNPs, are given a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). These points are awarded based on the principal applicant’s human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, and language ability in English or French.

The highest-scoring candidates receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence through regular Express Entry rounds of invitation. After making an application, IRCC will make a final decision on their immigration application and send them a Confirmation of Permanent Residence if their application is successful. The last step for approved permanent residents is to make their landing in Canada, and apply for their PR card. At this point, they have officially immigrated to Canada, and can eventually apply for citizenship.

IRCC plans to welcome about 110,000 immigrants per year through Express Entry in new 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan. By now, IRCC has held four draws in January and invited 10,000 candidates. Also, take a note here that IRCC is yet to hold an all-program draw this year.

PNP and CEC-specific draws, that are being held again, is a strong sign that IRCC will rely heavily on Express Entry candidates that are currently in Canada to achieve the immigration targets of year 2021. In addition, such a large draw for CEC candidates suggests that Canada may be planning to create a room for all-program draw and invite the skilled worker candidates soon. In any case, the candidates can have the high hopes.
