IRCC shares a new update for Hong Kong residents wishing to move to Canada

After the passage of National Security Law in Hong Kong, the citizens and foreign nationals express their concern regarding human right violations. Counter to this situation, Canada offers three new pathways for the residents of Hong Kong to immigrate to Canada.

The first pathway comprising of an Open work Permit Stream will be launched on February 08, 2021 whereas, the rest two pathways one for permanent residence applicants and one for study permit applicants will be taken into consideration in the months ahead.

Exploring the details regarding these pathways –

 

  • Open work permit program for recent graduates

Honk Kong residents who have been in Canada or abroad may apply for an open work permit which will be valid for 3 months. The applicant is supposed to have completed a post-secondary diploma or degree under a minimum of two years program. If the program has not been pursued from a Canadian institute, you will be expected to submit the educational credentials equivalent to Canadian degree at the time of application. Another important aspect that needs to be taken care of is the course/ program must have been completed within 5 years of submitting the application. Hong Kong residents currently in Canada will be allowed to submit an online application under this pathway.

 

  • IEC Working Holiday Program

Among major 30 countries bound under the IEC (International Experience Canada) program in Canada, Hong Kong is the one that has a Working Holiday agreement with Canada. This agreement allows professionals from foreign countries to live and work in Canada up to 2 years. The foreign nationals under this program have the privilege to travel to another country while sourcing employments of their chosen field usually between 12-24 months. This pathway offers a great opportunity to foreign professionals to explore career and lifestyle prospects in the country while commencing incredible career opportunities beyond the initial work permit.

 

  • Study Permits

International aspirants seeking world class education from Hong Kong are being offered a straight path to work and then be a permanent resident in India post completion of their pursued course under the study permit.   • Express Entry

Express Entry, introduced in 2015, is a pathway to immigrate to Canada and obtain permanent residence. It is available for citizens of Hong Kong as well as the other countries. This system accepts the applications of eligible candidates and gives them rank based on their age, education, language proficiency, work experience and other factors.

 

New Pathways expected in 2021

Moreover, for Hong Kong residents who are already staying in Canada and wish to apply for a PR, the eligibility has been defined as –

  1. Possessing Work Permit – must have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience and meet a minimum language and education requirement.
  2. Possessing Study Permit – must have graduated from a post-secondary institution in Canada.

Furthermore, Canada is stepping forward to introduce several measures and initiatives to favor the Hong Kong youth, which includes elimination of certain documents for immigration applications, relinquishing certain application fees and more.
