A total of 188 skilled worker and entrepreneur applicants were invited to apply for Canada immigration in two new provincial draws.
In November 17, invitations were issued under three streams of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP): Labour Impact, Express Entry, and Business Impact.
Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates received 141 invitations, while Business Impact candidates received 8 invitations.
A minimum score of 62 points was required for Business Impact candidates.
Meanwhile, in an unscheduled November 3 draw, PEI issued a further 39 invitations to Labour Impact/Express Entry candidates.
PEI launched its Expression of Interest system at the start of 2018 and has made monthly draws ever since, with some disruption due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A total of 1,933 invitations were issued by PEI in 2021 compared to 1,955 in 2020 and 1651 this year.
In 2021, 1,764 invitations went to Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates, while 169 went to Business Impact candidates.
1) Skilled Worker Stream
In this employer-driven stream, skilled workers with an employment offer in PEI can be nominated for Canadian permanent residence if they meet the following criteria:
2) Critical Worker Stream
This category is designed to prevent labour shortages and is open to foreign workers already in PEI with work in critical demand occupations. To qualify, they should meet these requirements:
Work Permit Stream
To be eligible for the P.E.I. Work Permit Stream, applicants must obtain a Canadian work permit and work for a P.E.I. business for the specified period of time as designated in a Performance Agreement.
A minimum investment of $150,000 is required after the Performance Agreement is fulfilled, as well as a commitment to manage the business on a daily basis from Prince Edward Island.
Prior to September 2018, Prince Edward Island operated direct permanent residence business streams, but these were closed because of concerns about immigration fraud.
