What Are The Qualifications For The Skilled Worker Stream?

The Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream (SWM) is designed to meet the specific needs of Manitoba employers. In order to obtain permanent residence in Canada, SWM nominates foreign-trained workers with the required skills. There are two paths to Manitoba immigration through the stream, which prioritizes candidates with a strong attachment to the province.

  • Manitoba Work Experience Pathway

The program is open to applicants who are currently working in Manitoba on a temporary work permit, through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, or as graduates from any province within Canada. It is not necessary for candidates to work in an in-demand occupation to be considered for this position.

  • Employer Direct Recruitment Pathway

For applicants from overseas with job offers from approved Manitoba employers.

What are the requirements for the skilled worker overseas program?

As part of the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO), both a direct provincial pathway and a dedicated Canada Express Entry pathway are available.

The program is aimed at international skilled workers with skills and training in Manitoba’s In-Demand Occupations. Applicants and spouses with close family connections as well as language proficiency, training, and experience are given priority.

  • Manitoba Express Entry Pathway

International candidates who meet Express Entry criteria and have an active Express Entry profile and are eligible under another MPNP stream. It is essential that candidates have skills, training, and experience in one of Manitoba’s In-Demand Occupations, and that they have strong family ties to the province.

  • Human Capital Pathway

An opportunity for international skilled workers with skills, training, and experience in one of Manitoba’s In-Demand Occupations. It is necessary for candidates to demonstrate that they are capable of finding employment as soon as they arrive in Manitoba.

International Education Stream: What Are The Requirements?

International Education Stream (IES) is designed for international graduates of Manitoba colleges and universities. Candidates who apply for an MPNP nomination under IES no longer have to work in their field for six months before applying. Three pathways are available:

  • Career Employment Pathway

The following requirements must be met in order to qualify:

  1. Have completed a one-year or longer course at a Manitoba post-secondary institution within three years of submitting the application.
  2. An offer of a full-time job in a Manitoba In-Demand occupation related to the completed degree
  3. Resident of Manitoba
  • Graduate Internship Pathway

Even without a job offer in the province, Masters and Doctoral degree holders who have completed Mitacs Accelerate or Elevate internships may apply for nomination.

  • Student Entrepreneur Pathway

The following requirements must be met in order to qualify:

  1. Completed a two-year or longer course from an eligible post-secondary Manitoba institution
  2. Six months business operation experience in Manitoba
