New Minimum Wage Commencing on October 1st in Ontario and Three Provinces

New minimum wages (Oct 1, 2024): Ontario $17.20, Manitoba $15.80, Saskatchewan $15.00, PEI $16. Earlier 2024: BC $17.40, Quebec $15.75, Federal $17.30.

New minimum wage rates will take effect on October 1, 2024 in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island.

  • Ontario: $17.20 per hour, effective October 1, 2024.
  • Manitoba: $15.80 per hour, effective October 1, 2024.
  • Saskatchewan: $15.00 per hour, effective October 1, 2024.
  • Prince Edward Island: $16.00 per hour, effective October 1, 2024.

The Canadian provinces make this adjustment every year to make sure that wages are commensurate with other economic conditions and the cost of living.

The minimum hourly wage in Quebec and British Columbia was raised earlier this year.

On June 1, 2024, British Columbia increased their minimum wage to $17.40 per hour, and on May 1, 2024, Quebec did the same, raising their minimum pay to $15.75 per hour.

On April 1, 2024, the federal minimum hourly pay for employees in the privately regulated government sectors was likewise raised to $17.30.
