Work permits will be issued by Canada to Yukon PNP nominees

Canada’s IRCC will issue 215 work permits to foreign workers under the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP), allowing them to work while their PR applications are processed. Eligible workers must be employed in Yukon and already have a YNP application submitted.

  • 215 foreign workers in Yukon nominated under the YNP will receive work permits.
  • While waiting for the processing of their PR application under YNP, foreign workers are permitted to continue working in Yukon.
  • This action is a part of the IRCC's short-term strategy of granting some PNP candidates open work permits.

Work permits for YNP candidates in Canada

The Immigration and Refugee Committee of Canada (IRCC) recently announced on October 1, 2024, that it will grant work permits to certain foreign workers residing in the Yukon. The Canadian Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, declared that candidates for the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) would be eligible to receive up to 215 work permits from the federal government.

The YNP will allow foreign workers to continue working lawfully while their application for permanent residence in Canada is being processed.

Who is eligible for these work permits?

These work permits would be available to you as a foreign worker if you:

  • Are presently employed by a Yukon employer with a legal work status
  • Have already applied for the YNP
  • Are being supported by the Government of Yukon
  • Fulfil all other requirements for the YNP

The larger program of IRCC

A new temporary regulation announced by the IRCC would allow some PNP candidates to apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP) in Canada. This action is a component of the IRCC's larger agenda. The IRCC carried out this change for the Manitoba PNP and the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program before Yukon.
