Prince Edward Island held its first provincial draw of 2022, issuing invitations to 132 skilled worker and entrepreneur Canada immigration candidates.

The January 20 draw saw invitations issued through the Labour Impact, Express Entry and Business Impact Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) streams.121 invitations went to Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates combined. 11 invitations went to Business Impact candidate who had provincial scores of at least 72 points.

The PEI PNP schedules its draws for the year in advance and this is the first scheduled draw of the year for the maritime province. PEI invited 1,804 candidates in 2021, 1,697 from the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams and 157 from the Business Impact stream.

 

PEI Express Entry Category

Candidates already in the federal Express Entry Pool are considered for a provincial nomination in PEI’s Express Entry category.

Express Entry candidates must first create an EOI profile with the PEI PNP in order to be considered for a provincial nomination from PEI.

Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination given an additional 600 points toward their CRS score and are effectively guaranteed an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

The PEI Express Entry Category offers two paths to Canadian permanent residence: one for candidates who have a job offer and one for those who do not.

 

Prince Edward Island Labour Impact Category

1) Skilled Worker Stream

This employer-driven stream allows skilled workers with a job offer in Prince Edward Island to be nominated for Canadian permanent residence if they meet the following criteria:

 

  • A full-time job offer from a Prince Edward Island company in an occupation classified as skill level “0”, “A” or “B” of the National Occupational Classification (NOC);
  • Completion of a post-secondary education, with a minimum of 14 years of formal education;
  • Between 21 and 55 years of age;
  • A minimum of two years of full-time work experience in the last five years;
  • Sufficient proficiency in English or French to occupy the employment offered;
  • Sufficient settlement funds;
  • Demonstrated intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

 

2) Critical Worker Stream

This category is designed to prevent labour shortages and is open to foreign workers already in PEI with work in critical demand occupations. To qualify, they should meet these requirements:

  • A full time offer of employment from a Prince Edward Island business in one of the following occupations:
    • Truck driver;
    • Customer service representative;
    • Labourer;
    • Food & beverage server;
    • Housekeeping attendant.
  • 6 months of work experience with the Prince Edward Island business offering employment;
  • Current valid Canadian work permit;
  • High school diploma and minimum of 12 years of formal education;
  • Between 21 and 55 years of age;
  • At least 2 years of full-time work experience in the past 5 years;
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in English or French language;
  • Sufficient settlement funds;
  • Demonstrated intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

 

Prince Edward Island Business Impact Category

Individuals applying through the P.E.I. Work Permit Stream must obtain a Canadian work permit and work for a P.E.I. business for the duration specified in a Performance Agreement.

Following the completion of the Performance Agreement, the applicant must make a minimum $150,000 investment in the business and commit to managing it on a daily basis from within P.E.I.
