What is RNIP (Rural Northern Immigration Pilot)?

RNIP is an economic pilot program targeted to foreign nationals who have received a recommendation from a community that is participating in the program and obtained a job offer within the same community’s boundaries; who meet minimum education, work experience, language proficiency, and settlement fund requirements; and who intend to reside in the recommending community.

RNIP for Vernon-North Okanagan – a participating community is easing some requirements to allow employers to hire more employees starting December 1. The pilot was first introduced in February 2020. Initially RNIP program for Vernon-North Okanagan started with conservative criteria in order to manage the potential demand, and now they have eased the requirements for community’s local economy to grow.

What are the changes?

First is a decrease of minimum wage to $23 per hour from $25 that will help the employers to hire more employees.

In addition, those who have been living, studying or working in the community for at least six months are exempt from these criteria if working on current wage is from $18 to $22.99 per hour, they score at least 30 points on the community’s point system.

There has been change in the points given for the certain candidates in the newly introduced change the details for which are given as under.

If candidates have worked or studied in the community, they will receive more points. If candidate have work experience for at least six months in the community, they will receive 15 points instead of 10 points.

Those who have studies for at least 2 years out of last 5 years will receive 10 points instead of 6 points.

Candidates who have their immediate family members living in the community for at least six months will receive 3 points instead of 2 for each family member. Also, the maximum points allowed for immediate family members will be now 9 points instead of 8 points.

There have also been point reductions in the community’s criteria. Applicants will now receive up to 10 points instead of 15 points for work experience outside the community. There were also changes to points given for a candidate’s age. Only those under 25 will benefit from this change, as they will receive 3 points instead of 2.

We can expect that these changes will ultimately benefit the applicants and help them secure the cut-off points to qualify in the program. For more information and to apply for PR, contact us at inquiry@winnyimmigrtion.com or call us at 1800-419-3242.
