Canadian immigration allows the temporary residents to extend their stay in Canada once again after the previous extension. Temporary residents who had valid status on or after January 30, 2020 but the status expired before May 31, 2021 have time until August 31, 2021 to apply to restore their respective status.
The original policy was introduced on July 14, 2020 where the applicants were given extension until December 31, 2020. The workers, students and visitors, who are in Canada when their status expires, normally have 90 days to apply to restore their status. Due to service disruption caused by the pandemic, these individual have time until the end of August to send their applications, if they meet certain condition.
The applicants need to fulfil the following conditions in order to be eligible for new policy:
The policy also includes the work permit holders who have job offer to work while their application is being processed. This could apply to the work permit application or restoration. If temporary workers are approved under this policy, they may be allowed to start their employment while waiting on a decision to restore their status, or get a work permit.
If the candidates want to be eligible for the work authorization, they are required to have submitted the employer-specific work permit and restoration application along with the fees. Please note that they must have had a valid permit in the 12 months before the date on which they have sent in their restoration application.
Canadian immigration has been supportive towards the immigrants since the beginning and we can expect more positive updates this year.
