It has been stated by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that foreign nationals will no longer be able to apply at their Canadian port of entry (POE) for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) as of June 21. This modification takes effect immediately.
According to Immigration Minister Marc Miller, this will lessen "flagpoling" and provide border guards more time to finish "enforcement activities." Additionally, it is anticipated to expedite the flow of commercial items between Canada and the US and lessen traveler delays.
The department also claims that the adjustment will improve "fairness among applicants" and that it will keep looking for further strategies to cut down on flagpoling in the future.
Minister Miller states, "'Flagpoling' is unnecessary, even as we continue to support and recognize the contributions of international graduates to Canada's labour market."
