New Updates for Australia Skilled Worker Visas

Updates to visa conditions 8107, 8607, and 8608 have been announced by the Australian government and will take effect on July 1, 2024. The Department of Home Affairs seeks to stop unfair labor practices and help temporary immigrants with the following visas move up the job market:

  • Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482
  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) visa (subclass 494)
  • Temporary work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457)

As per the latest update, those who possess the aforementioned visas and stop working for their sponsoring employer would have an extended period of time to look for a new sponsor or apply for a visa. Workers holding these visas will have a maximum of 365 days, or 180 consecutive days, to arrange for their removal from Australia or apply for a new visa.

Employees may choose to work in positions not specified in their recently accepted sponsorship nomination during this time. The purpose of the action is to make sure that those in possession of a visa may maintain themselves while they hunt for a new sponsor.
