Alberta Announces New PNP Name and Two New Programs

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) was renamed the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program on February 16, 2022.Two new streams were also launched – the Rural Renewal Stream and the Rural Entrepreneur Stream.

Alberta is also changing the name of three existing entrepreneur streams:

• The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream is now the Graduate Entrepreneur Stream.
• The Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream is now the Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream.
• The Self-Employed Farmer Stream is now the Farm Stream.

The eligibility criteria are not changing for these existing streams.

Candidates who submitted their application using the online portal and need an extension must now submit the request in the portal. Those who submitted a paper application can still submit an extension application via paper. All other post-decision processes are unchanged.

The new program and stream names will be updated on the Alberta portal in the coming weeks.

According to a government press release, the new name is intended to “help promote Alberta’s reputation and benefits as an attractive place to work and raise a family.”

The new Rural Renewal Stream and Rural Entrepreneur Stream are designed to attract skilled and talented professionals and entrepreneurs from all over the world to settle in rural Alberta communities. To be eligible, rural communities must be located outside of the Calgary and Edmonton metropolitan areas and have a population of less than 100,000 people according to the 2016 census

The Rural Renewal Stream is designed for people who have a job offer from an Alberta employer to work in a rural Alberta community. The Rural Renewal Stream in Alberta is currently accepting applications from rural communities. A small number of communities will be chosen to participate in this program as designated communities.

The Rural Entrepreneur Stream is a program that helps entrepreneurs start or buy a business in Alberta’s rural communities. Applicants submit an expression of interest and then get an opportunity to visit the community where they hope to start their business.

In 2021, Alberta nominated 6,250 newcomers to apply for permanent residence.
