Owner Operated Program

The owner-operator is not a formal immigration program announced by the IRCC, Canada. Rather, it is a work permit issued under the federal Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). This work visa under the Business Owner operator Program is for foreign investors and entrepreneurs who want to establish a new business or purchase an existing operating business in Canada.

To qualify as an owner-operator, the foreign investor must have a verifiable, documented, and transferable work experience as a business owner or as a business manager. An investor should have sufficient assets to purchase a business in Canada and sufficient language abilities in either English or French to actively work as a manager or owner in the business.

The foreign owner operator on a work permit can apply for Permanent Residency at a later stage to Canada under one of the programs serviced by the Express Entry system or under a suitable provincial business immigration stream.
