In the fifth Express Entry draw for December, held on December 20, Canada issued 670 Invitations to Apply (ITAs), with a particular focus on transport occupations. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for this draw was set at 435 points. This draw marked the fifth one in December, following a hiatus of over a month without draws.

This draw was the second in a series of occupation-specific invitations, specifically targeting transport occupations. The following 10 occupations in the transport industry were highlighted:

  • Deck officers, water transport (NOC 72602, TEER category 2)
  • Air traffic controllers and related occupations (NOC 72601, TEER category 2)
  • Air pilots, flight engineers and flying instructors (NOC 72600, TEER category 2)
  • Aircraft mechanics and aircraft inspectors (NOC 72404, TEER category 2)
  • Railway carmen/women (NOC 72403, TEER category 2)
  • Managers in transportation (NOC 70020, TEER category 0)

Canada has conducted various draws throughout the year, emphasizing different categories, including transport occupations. As of now in 2023, a total of 109,866 ITAs have been issued, significantly surpassing the 45,115 candidates invited in the entirety of 2022. The record-breaking trend of ITAs continues from 2021, where 114,431 ITAs were issued, outperforming the previous high of 107,350 set in 2020.

With an ambitious immigration target of 465,000 for 2023, Canada remains proactive in inviting skilled individuals to contribute to its workforce.

The tie-breaking rule for the latest draw, implemented on August 30. 2023 at 17:30:21 UTC, ensures fairness in cases where multiple candidates have the minimum CRS score. Only those who submitted their Express Entry profiles before this specified date and time received invitations.

This draw marked the 40th round of invitations under Express Entry in 2023 and the 276th overall. Candidates have a 60-day window to submit their applications, with processing expected within the standard six-month timeframe.
