  • September 8, 2023

Starting on October 10, 2023, the IRCC will initiate the process by sending out invitations to apply to a total of 24,200 potential sponsors. Their ultimate aim is to receive up to 15,000 complete applications. The invitations will be dispatched over a span of two weeks, commencing on the aforementioned date.

A Unique Approach:

This year, the IRCC has chosen a different approach to select potential sponsors. Rather than opening a new interest-to-sponsor form, they will be reaching out to randomly selected individuals from the pool of submissions made in 2020. This strategy has previously been employed for the 2021 and 2022 intakes. If you submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020 but didn’t receive an invitation in the past two years, it’s time to check the email account you provided in 2020 for a potential invitation.

Application Process:

For those lucky enough to receive an invitation to apply for the 2023 intake, the application submission process will be electronic. Applicants can submit their paperwork via the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.

General Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible to sponsor your parents and grandparents for Canadian permanent residency, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You should be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act.
  • You must have sufficient financial resources to support the family you wish to sponsor, with valid proof of income for the past three years, meeting the financial requirements set by the IRCC.

Super Visa Option:

If you’ve been unable to participate in the sponsorship program since 2020, there’s another avenue to consider. You can apply for a super visa, which offers a validity of up to 10 years and allows multiple entries into Canada. Super visa holders can stay in Canada for a maximum of 5 years at a time, with the option to extend their stay by up to 2 years without leaving the country. These modifications are designed to facilitate longer reunifications between Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and their parents and grandparents.
