Canada has issued 1,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in its first-ever Express Entry draw targeting skilled trades occupations. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required to be invited in this draw was 388. This is the lowest CRS score ever required for an Express Entry draw.

The draw targeted 10 occupations in the skilled trades, including carpenters, plumbers, and electricians. It was the third draw of the week, and it follows a series of recent changes to Canada’s immigration system that are designed to make it easier for skilled trades workers to immigrate to the country.

“It’s absolutely critical to address the shortage of skilled trades workers in our country,” said Immigration Minister Marc Miller. “This round of category-based selection recognizes these skilled trades workers as essential, and I look forward to welcoming more of these talented individuals to Canada.”

The draw also implemented a tie-breaking rule that came into effect on June 7, 2023. This rule means that in cases where multiple candidates share the minimum CRS score, only those who submitted their Express Entry profiles before a specified date and time will be invited.

Canada has now issued 74,149 ITAs in 2023. This is a significant increase from the 45,115 ITAs that were issued in all of 2022. The government has said that it plans to issue even more ITAs in the coming months as it seeks to address the shortage of skilled workers in Canada.
