The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently updated the minimum income requirement for the Canada Super Visa in 2023. This visa is designed for Canadian permanent residents and citizens who want to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada for an extended stay of up to 5 years, with the possibility of a 2-year extension afterwards.

According to the new update, the minimum required income for the Canada Super Visa has increased by over 3.33% when compared to the previous requirement. This means that applicants will need to meet the updated income requirement in order to be eligible for the Super Visa program.

What is the Canada Super Visa and How Does it Work?

The Canada Super Visa is a temporary visa that allows parents and grandparents to live in Canada with their families for an extended period. This visa is valid for ten years and allows for multiple entries, which means that eligible family members can visit Canada for up to five years without the need to renew their visa.

One of the most significant benefits of the Canada Super Visa is that it permits holders to stay in Canada for up to five years on each entry. This is in contrast to 10-year multiple-entry visitor visas that only allow for a six-month stay for each arrival. The Super Visa is an excellent alternative to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), which only accepts a limited number of people for permanent residency.

The Canada Super Visa processing time usually varies based on the country of nationality of the parents or grandparents for whom you apply. As per the latest IRCC processing times updated on May 2, 2023, the processing times for major INC – Immigration News Canada patrons countries are as follows:

  • India: 55 Days
  • Nigeria: 708 Days
  • United States: 125 Days
  • Pakistan: 309 Days
  • Philippines: 203 Days
  • UAE: 640 Days
  • Bangladesh: 206 Days
  • Sri Lanka: 239 Days

It is essential to note that these processing times are subject to change and may vary based on individual circumstances. Therefore, it is crucial to plan ahead and apply for the Canada Super Visa well in advance to avoid any delays.

 

Acceptable Proof of Funds for Canada Super Visa

When applying for a Canada Super Visa, the sponsoring child or grandchild must provide proof that their family meets the minimum income requirement. There are several acceptable documents that can be used to show proof of funds:

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
  • Employment Insurance Benefit statements
  • Employment letter including salary, job title, job description, and date of hiring
  • Pay stubs
  • Bank statements
